Artist Statement

The artwork I strive to make is primarily aesthetically pleasing, pretty, cute and childish imagery with a sort of unease in it. I like to make work that at first glance, seems regular but then it has a darker undertone. My art is a method of processing the world we live in and how I react to what’s currently going on around me, as well as things I’ve experienced growing up.

Because of this, the things that are important to me personally show up a lot in my artwork. This includes the ideas of;  childhood, sexuality, femininity, anticapitalism, mental health representation, animal advocacy, and queer rights. Some of these are influences and some I directly depict in my work. While these concepts are central, I don’t normally highlight them. The themes in my pieces are more in the background and not the centre of attention.

There are also a lot of things in pop culture that influence my work like; dolls brands such as Bratz and Monster High, Hello Kitty, anime, the Pop Art movement of the 1980s especially Keith Haring, video games, horror movies and modern fashion.
